Another Fallen Soldier

A family friend's son just passed away last Friday while he was on his 2nd tour of duty in Iraq. What makes this ordeal even worse, was he only had 3 more weeks on his tour left before he was to return home. Sadly before that time, he was killed when his Humvee hit a roadside explosive. His name was Clifton Yazzie, he was only 23 years old.

His parents lived less than a mile from my Dad's home and his mother and father, we're softball and basketball coaches to us when we were younger. We have known them forever it seems like. When my mom was battling cancer herself and they had told her she wasn't responding to treatment anymore, my younger sister's softball team just happened to win the softball tourney they were in. The coaches decided to dedicate the tourney to my mom and in turn gave her the trophy they won. That meant so much to us as a family. So I feel for them in their time of loss. So let's all take time to honor our fallen soldier who died fighting for his country.

Nuevo Laredo

Hey All, it's been a whole week since I've updated this puppy! My weekend went pretty well. The bf and I went to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico! Yes the one you hear about in the news. If you haven't heard anything in the news, here's the skinny. Apparently there is a huge drug war going on there right now. Here's how bad it is, the new police chief was shot dead within a hour of taking the position in front of the police station!!! But we went anyway, come on now, I did move from Las Cruces, NM which is right by El Paso, TX so I was a regular in Juarez, MX LOL But I have to admit I did have my reservations about going, but I went anyway. It wasn't what I thought, I guess with all the bad news that I've read about that place, I expected it to look like the worst part of LA, but it was actually nice! We walked around (close to the border) and took in scenary, had a beer at a bar and I scored some tequila for such a great price, I felt like I was stealing it!! But I'm glad to say I made it back across the border, back to the safe land! When we made the drive back up here to San Antonio, we went to a birthday party where there was a Margarita machine and then drank at my house for a bit, the last thing I took was a shot of Presidente, which I also bought in Mexico and that was it for me! That shot knocked me out! But it was a fun time!

On Sunday I watched the Steelers win! Yeah! Go Steelers, I'm a huge Steelers fan, so I may have to have a Superbowl party!! Hmmm I guess it's a good thing I got Tequila now that I think of it.....

But other than that, my life has been as routine as usual except for all the stuffiness that is in my head right now! I so wish I could down some Thera-Flu and hide under my covers, but here I sit at work!

I've cheated!

Okay it's official, I've just cheated on my diet! I had Chick Fil'A for lunch, but hey I did get my chicken sandwich on a wheat bun, but that didn't help the fact I had fries when I could have easily gotten a salad! Oh well it was so worth it! Now I just have to kick some butt at the gym tonight. I went to the gym on Monday and ran a little over 5 miles, but didn't go last night, instead I opted to go watch "hood...." something, the cartoon that's a spin off of Little Red Riding Hood, it was an okay moive, it had it's moments, but I wont' be buying it when it comes out on DVD.

Like I've mentioned earlier, I've just moved into a house with 2 other girls, what you don't know is that I've just recently met these 2 chicas. I went looking for a roommate on roommates.com and they are the only ones that seemed fairly normal. I had specific instructions from the boyfriend not to live with a male, so that cut half the choices down. But given my former living situation, I was desparate to get out, so I took the place. So far things seem to be going fairly well. The only problem I'm having is the whole cable modem thing. The router is in A's room and she didn't even realize she had an open connection, so now I can't even really get a connection on my laptop using my brand new wireless card. It is not my computer, because when I did have my own wireless it worked great, so that's not an option. Since I really dont' know this girl, I just can't barge into her room and turn on her computer and look at the settings. So every night it's very frustrating!! I can never get a frickin signal. I'm at the point where I don't even want to pay my share of it, because what's the point, I can't even get access. I need a connection so I may just get another connection there, but that would entail having to get the person whose name the cable bill is on, to go and pick me up a setup. *Sigh* So if I can't get that puppy working by this weekend, it looks like that's what I'll have to do anyway. I can't live without the internet!

Gym or hookup?

I've moved!!! Well I'm still in San Antonio, but I've moved homes! LOL I now have 2 roommates who seem to be pretty cool and the big big news is, it's only 3.5 miles to work!!! Before I was driving at least a 40 minute commute in the morning so I'm loving this!!

The gym I go to is just a madhouse with all the new resolutioners!!! I went on MOnday and I'm glad I get into work early so I can leave work before 5pm and get to the gym before the 5'ers get there by the time 5:30 rolls around there are literally no treadmills left and since I've been going to this gym since September I feel like I have senority. I run for about an hour on average so when the newbies give me a look, I just keep on running! People need better gym etiquette!! When I was at the gym on Tuesday running on the treadmill there were two girls who were noticeably still in highschool not even working out they were just chatting with 2 guys trying to hook up, I looked at the guy who was also running next to me and said, "God I hope I didn't act like that when I was in high school!" It was just terrible to watch!! That's not the only thing, when I was leaving the dressing room, I saw a girl putting on makeup BEFORE her workout! I mean do you really look that bad without makeup that you need it on only for it to smear while you are working out, assuming your there to workout! Okay I'll stop at that!

One thing I love about San Antonio, is the stop lights! You can sit there for a while, think about reapplying your makeup and when you finally decide to you STILL have time to put on your powder and lipstick and not even miss a change in the light! I love it!

Happy 2006!!!

Well well well, it seems I have taken a serious vacation from my blog!! Well my holidays went great! I spent some much needed time in New Mexico visiting family and just having a blast! I in no way stuck to my diet, I just can't get food out here that tastes that great! Hey that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

For New Years I was back in San Antonio, but my boyfriend and I decided we would spend it up in Dallas hanging out with his friends he used to work with. I bought my first bottle of "ice wine" to ring in the New Year and I must say it was great!! If you haven't tried it already, you've got to try "ice wine"!!!! We spent practically no money on the festivities, we ended up Q'ing it up with his friend's cousins who provided everything from the shrimp to the alcohol and let's just say there was more than enough to go around!!! There were literally cases and cases of champagne, which I think I may have ended up drinking too now that I think about it........I couldn't have drank that much, because I did wake up hangover free.....hmmm???? I finally uploaded all my pics from my digital camera to the computer so will post some in the very near future.
